J&C Bachmann is specialized on industrial measurement and control applications. Topics are the realization of physical and image based analysis methods for process control. It is focused on devices for the determination of material properties and on image analysis for quality assurance. Production and R&D site relocated to Karlsbad in October 2014. Located close to Karlsruhe, the new site enables short ways to our cooperation partner KIT. Complex solutions are offered in close cooperation with partner companies. Therefore tasks like the roboter based automation of production stages can be realized. Most companies are going to reduce their own capacities in control and automation due to the strong competition in the industry. While ten years ago most companies provided own staff on a 24/7 base to maintain service today this personell is often available only on morning shift. This results in outsourcing of design and realization of control systems to external companies. J&C Bachmann with its experienced team fills this gap.

TEXAS and FLORIDA: Online elemental analysis X-ray fluorescence, well known as laboratory method was adapted by JCB as online method for elemental analysis without sampling on conveyor belts for bulk materials or at pipes for slurries. This allows to determine the composition of bulk materials or suspensions continuously without sample preparation or time delay and to realize efficient control circuits.

OREGON: Washability analyzer The Washability Monitor OREGON was developed especially for the ore and coal preparation. This device determines the commodity parameters required for efficient preparation in short time and works without any chemicals. The washability monitor utilizes a combination of optical and radiometric image analysis. The sample to be analyzed is fed over a small conveyor belt: Washability analysis takes about 30 minutes and replaces the time consuming and delicate swim/sink analysis.

OREGON washability analysis

Image of particle analyzed by OREGON. The stripes represent different layers of ore and shelf. The height map which is derived optically represents the shape of the particle. The weight map, derived by X-ray transmission, combined with the height map indicates the density distribution of the particle. The table shows all relevant particle parameters which are stored in a database.

TEXAS Online Elemental Analyzer

Online XRF analyzer installed on conveyor belt. In this application coal with a maximum particle size of 85 mm is analyzed on a 1200 mm wide belt travelling at 3 m/s.

FLORIDA Online Slurry Analyzer

Online XRF analyzer installed at a stainless steel pipe (equipped with measuring window) in a base metal plant. Process temperature is 85 °C; pipe diameter is 40 mm at flow speed approximately 6 m/s.

J&C Bachmann has adapted the well known X-ray fluorescence analysis for online applications on bulk material and fluids (FLORIDA analyzer). Since the analyzers TEXAS (bulk material on conveyor belts) and FLORIDA (slurries or suspensions) work without sampling the unbiased quality information is available without time delay. Successful installations were done in Europe, North America and Africa.
