Peru/Lima – Antamina Mine
Since 2002, four Wirth™ TPK pumps are operating at a copper mine located 470 km north of Lima at an elevation of 4 200 metres. They transport copper concentrate through a 300-km-long pipeline, running from the mine site to the port of Huarmey, north of Lima. Each pump has a capacity of of 132 m³/h; the required discharge pressure is 25.2 MPa, while the installed power is 1 300 kW with variable frequency drives being used.
Andina Mine/El Soldado Mine, Chile
In 1997 three Wirth™ TPM pumps were delivered to Codelco’s Andina Mine. At the “Overjeria Tailings Dam” they transport tailings 4 000 m above sea level through a flume over a distance of 57 km to the dam site (700 m above sea level). Each pump is operating with a discharge flow of 140 m³/h and a max. working pressure of 4.0 MPa. A similar application was installed in 1990 at El Soldado Mine with more than 120 000 hours operation without any unplanned downtime.
Quebrada Honda, Peru
In 2007, four Wirth™ TPM pumps were delivered to the Southern Peru Copper Corporation to be installed around the tailings disposal dams in Quebrada Honda in Toquepala, Peru. The project processes 147,000 t tailings per day with tailings being placed in two tailing dams, Dique Principal and Dique Lateral. Three MHWirth pumps are operating at a discharge flow of 295 m³/h and a discharge pressure of 6 MPa. One pump operates 190 m³/h at a discharge pressure of 8 MPa.
